Food for Pheidologeton diversus - any ideas?

Beitragvon UneXisted » 23. Mai 2010 09:40

Today I realized that i have to find a cheap solution for my growing P. diversus colony. At the moment i could give them 2 Blaptica dubia cockroaches a day. In a couple of weeks this would probably be a lot more.

I have thought about the following food sources:
  • Frozen mice; (very nutrious?)
  • Frozen rats; (ery nutrious?)
  • Frozen poult; (ery nutrious?)
  • Raw ham; (easy to get)
  • Raw pork; (easy to get)

So far i have given:
  • Small and large crickets, grasshoppers;
  • Blaptica dubia (cockroach);
  • Spiders, moths and other small insects taken from nature

I am searching for an alternative food source. It has to be cheap and it has to satisfies the hunger of a big Pheidologeton diversus colony. Suggestions anyone?

Pheidologeton eats everything that you will give them that has protein. But the only thing that would make me worry
is the smell you get when u have dad mamals in your basin. Otherwise i already would have fed them mice and stuff

I'd opt for raw meat rather than dead mice.

Pork, beef, chicken. Vary it a bit. Turkey has the highest protein content and is cheap. I just give my ants a little bit of whatever I am cooking.

I still think insects need to be included as well. It might be the case that all the essential nutrients for ants can be found in raw meat, but as long as you are giving them some insects as well, that will make sure they get everything they need.
