Hehe, i'm jealous, u guys have the ants i so badly want..

I gave my hercu queens some honeywater with sugar init, they ate all (full pill tablets), now they're nice n fat, could up some pics..

those pill tablet thingy's are very useful, since they are easy to use, they dont spill all the food in the tube and get it dirty, and i can get much of those easily(grandparents eat painkillers etc drugs madly)

Great Steve, good luck with them, they are really nice ants. Mine or not moving on much now, not a lot of new workers. But i blame the weather. ;)

I turned off all of my heat mats because it is summer now, but the temperature is lower than it was in spring. I'm considering to turn back on the heating. ;)

So I guess "The Ants" is right about two periods of Camponotus queen laying eggs. All spring my C. vagus had a lot of brood in the nest. They grew from 8 workers to 50+. There used to be 20+ cocoons in the nest now there are maybe 5. I guess by the end of the summer queen will lay again and then hybernate with lots of larva.

Oh, and Steve, congrats and welcome to the club.

If the weather is better yes. (saves energy) But now i have them turned back on. My South European ants have to do without the heats mats until fall.

Don't worry about the colour of the water. Happens all the time. ;) You could provide them a second tube so they can move if necessary.

this color is by bacteria lives in cotton , it is not dangerous because special feremon kill all bacteria near brood chamber :) , but it looks better if you will move colony to new tube. I do not using normal cotton , I using aqua-filter cotton

because it do not "rot" like normal cotton which are you using :)
