Im started to get more excited about building my first farm everytime i scroll around this forum
but i still have a few questions. This will be my first farm so to make it more special i decided to make one my own!I'm thinking of building a ytong attached with a hose with a T-piece in the middle connected to 2 basins (20x10x10). Thought it would be nice to make 2 differet kind of basins with different food and surroundings possibly on with moss and seeds etc and one with sand and insects and honey
. I can buy the ytong block at a shop in my neighberhood and there 60x20x10. But as i read several times on the forum that it shouldn't be to big for a starting colony. So what is a good size to begin with? I also read that you can make it bigger when your colony grows. But is it better to attach another ytong to it or just build a large ytong and put a piece of whool in a tunnel so that you can make it bigger with the growing of your colony? I read on this forum that every tunnel should be around 1 - 1,5 cm deep. But shouldn't there be a large tunnel in the ytong so that they can move food in or something?
Do i need to cover my ythong with something to block out the light or is it oke when the ants are in to let it open? (not directly in the sunlight)
As for the heating is it oke to lay a heater mat under the ythong or something as a thermo control? and should the basins be heated to?
Last question for now
what ant species should i get? I don't like the looks of lasius niger species, and they should not be able to bite through the ylong:PThanks a lot!
