highered: Right size ant farm for Camponotus ligniperdus? (2. Jun 2008 14:38)

I have bought some Camponotus ligniperdus with an
Acryl-Ant-Display-25x2x20-cms

If this turns out to not be big enough can It return it to replace it with something bigger eg
glass-XL---ant-display-30x6x20-cm?

Thank you

That will be fine for the first couple of years, depending on the size of the colony, you will also need some kind of out world for food and water, I dont recomend you try and do it all in that very small farm

however for now, you could attach 2 tubes, and have them going into test tubes, one with water (bunged up with cotton wool) and one with food (thats how I have one of myne set up atm, works fine)

if your new to keeping ants, you may want to checkout the caresheet in the beginners section, its applicable to Camp lig aswell even tho its written for Lasius niger, they have almost identical requirements

Yes you could use it to start off but Camponotus ligniperda are big ants and your display is only 2cm wide that is why it said it is a bit small.

It would be an interesting experiment if you had lots of space for the ants to forage. If you don't, don't risk it. ;) The ants might invade the nests.
