Psychosimian: Camponotus ligniperda (13. Sep 2006 22:10)

Firstly, sorry for switching thread (from CL post on Antstock thread), but I intend to get everything from Berlin as I need a tank etc, so i thought I'd better put my questions in here.

I'd like to start a small Camponotus Ligniperda colony and think I know roughly what I need, but I'd like to get some advise on what to get as I'm new to this.

So far I'm planning on getting the following:

Large Starter Set
Camponotus Ligniperda Colony
Forest Honey

I am also thinking about getting the Forest Furniture Set to provide an environment similar to their natural habitat and hopefully keep them happy...

Do i also need a heater? I looked at the Stone heaters but im worried about how to get the wires out of the tank without risking them escaping....

Should I also get a water dish? How much of the farm part (tall thin bit) should i cover with the Red PVC stuff ?

Lastly, is there anything else I will need?

Dear Psychosimian,

I think, that's enough.
a sun lamp on a side of the formicarium is good and the forest furniture set look out good. but if you have a forest in the near, you can search self of this items.
The water dish or a water place is in all formicariums good for the ants.

The red PVC foil is not so importent, but a good help to see better in the inside of the nest.

for the Starter Set glass farm arena is 60W OK.

Okay, i think i'm just about ready to order (getting excited now!) so hopefully this is the last time i ask you lots of questions!

# For the light, do you mean something like this? And is this just for during the day?

# Would i be better with a Feeding Dish or Drinking trough? I dont want them getting complacent and not eating any insects i give them!

# With the PVC, does the Sticky PVC come off? And is it easy to see through?

# Do i also need this Fluid PTFE stuff? I really dont want them escaping - the starter set looks good, but with taking the lid off to feed them etc you cant be too careful right?

So my shopping list will be:

Mini Thermometer
Either Feeding Dish and sponge or Feeding Trough

The PTFE maybe?
Prob a few bits of PVC
A Lamp

red PVC foil is easy to see through.
PTFE is only for a glasbasin not for a glasfarm.
but carful! for example: (left side is bad, right side is OK)
