I got some really nice shots over this past week (spring break). I thought I would share a few :)

Its hard to tell from this pic, but this fire ant mound is 2m + across and about a half meter tall. I stomped on the ground about a meter away from the mound and 10 seconds later it was covered by thousands of fire ants... nasty things.

A really nice cypress tree on a trail I ride. I was shooting into the sun so it looks a bit washed out.

darradar: I created a thread a while back when I first set up the formicarium. Ive been waiting for spring to arrive so I can catch a queen from a nuptial flight (can't buy/ship ants here in the US). I put two winged queens and a winged male into the formicarium about 4 months ago. One of the queens recently dropped her wings, although I don't know if she mated or not. Anyway, the formicarium still looks pretty much the same... I posted the pics in this thread: http://www.antstore.net/viewtopic.php?t=6749

Really great pictures CapitalO. Looks like a nice place where you live. It would surprise me if the queen is fertilized without a decent mating flight, but nothing is impossible. ;)
