What ants do you like the most ?

JimmyVe: (16. Okt 2007 17:03)

Didn't vote myself because i like them all ;).

Central European ants i like because they are easier toe keep ;)
South European ants i like because they nice, most of the time bigger but still keep a hibernation. So you have a time they don't need much care.
Exotic ants i like because they are so pretty and difficult to keep, a real challenge. ;)

Exotic because colonies are all unique and interesting. And less well-known as local.

hard question, i cant answer, unless u add all three lol

I love all ants tbh :D

I spose exotic, as they are generally bigger, and i love watching the interactions between them

yes ,I also like exotic ants more like European ants ,because they dont need hibernation and I can look on them every time during all year in my room ,and they everytime have brood ;)

My vote goes to exotic too.
Because of the hibernation, the unique (you can´t compare it to europeans) and the special nests or holding....

my vote also goes to exotic as they are so incredibly interesting especially the world famous leaf cutter ants.

I like our European species, but I don´t like Myrmica rubra, they are anywhere.... From south european I like Messor breeding, the most, because with their casts they are really interesting... From exotic are beautiful Polyarchis...

I like ants which I can observe easily in their natural habitat, so I prefer Central European species. I would't like to keep any exotic ants. What if the colony will be succesful (i hope so) and after few years it will produce sexuals? Letting them fly would be dangerous for local ecosystem in worst case, and in the better, they will all die. And there is no such problem with local species. And if I ever will get bored with ants, I can simply re-introduce them into their natural habitat (like concrete pavement, for example)

Tail, you have very clever thinking.... Yestrday I was thinking about it, what happen, when some keeper will keep some colonies from South America, in Europe. It will be the same weather, but diferent habitat. When those colonies get to the nature, it will be really bad for natural habitat there....
