Hello guys, just thought id post up a few pics of my tarantulas, they are my real hobby, and have kept them for most of my life, infact the indian ornamental (Claudia) i have had for almost 8 years, i am lucky in the fact that all my spiders turned out to be female, as they live the longest and are also the larger of the 2 sexes. They are mainly all arboreal (tree dwelling) with the exception of 1, (Chloe) a salmon pink she is terrestrial, and potentaily will be the biggest, she is only a baby right now and just completed her 5th moult, but is bigger then claudia already.! i also have a red and a purple tree spiders, (CleoRocco and Clarrissa)
I have had them all from small 2cm spiderling, watching them grow is very rewarding, and to see a moult is quite incredible, i have many skins that i like to keep and take out n about scaring poeple sensless with, like at work etc, cruel..... but oh my god so very, very funny !
hope you like em
ps can only post 2 up for some reason, will try other 2 tomrrow
Nice :) i've always wanted a red kneed spider, not sure if its a tarantula or bird eathing spider, but looks funky :D
Beautiful... Claudia is Stromatophelma, or Poeciloteria??? I had two Gramostola rosea, two of Lasiosoda parahybana, one ,,Lasiodora somethink" and Brachypelma vagans, albopilosa.... But after some time this keeping starting to bee boring,so I get them off...
nice colors. to they bite? :D
aha Messorus, Claudia is indeed of the Poecilotheria family, regalis infact, i didnt bother to use the scientific names as it wouldnt mean anything to most that look, bravo young man =D>
and Mzfckr do they bite, well yes and no, that being said, Clarrissa and CloeRocco most certainly show extreme aggression, and very likely would bite given the chance, specailly Clarrissa, she dont hestitate to dive at me when i need to be inside her tank  Claudia, on the other hand tho i have never actually held her, shows no aggression at all, it is thought that after many years even a tarantular can become familuar with thier keepers scent, and tolerate minor disturbances.
I do not beleive its neither wanted or needed to hold tarantula's, i treat my spiders with the upmost respect, they would not be handled in the wild, so i see no purpose in captivity, i provide all that they need/require within thier tanks, which incidentally are ample sized for each ones requirments, ie Cluadia, Clarrissa and CleoRocco being arboreal, need hight rather than width, so are housed in specailly designed tanks giving more hight then width, and the opposite for Chloe, she is a burrowing speciese and has no use for hight.
None of the species i have are for the novice keeper, experience is needed and gained from starting with much more docile speicese like the red knee or chilean rose, my spiders are very fast indeed, sometimes they even make the hair on my kneck stick up.!!
pictures of Chloe my salmon pink, so named due to the tiny pink hairs that cover her body, as she grows bigger they will become more prefuse covering much more of her. And another of Claudia trying to show her yellow leg markings.
CleoRocco seems to be going into shedding mode and has webbed up a cocoon so cant get a good photo of her, but when she has moulted i will get one, she is a red tree spider, shedding cant take upto 3 weeks, she stopped eating 3 days ago, so i know she's beggining to prepare for shedding
Thank you darradar, but I´m not so much interested, like you maybe think, with tarantulas I m only beginer, but If sometimes somethink make me a fascination, I can learn about it a lot... For example ants, but I feel, than my ant keeping, and studing them, never stopp, like for examp. keeping of tarantulas....
thats cool Messorus, its for everybodies benefet that might like an insight into other forms of Entomology, tarantula are my first love, mantids and ants now also included in my hobby, i hope to provide a little of my limited knowledge to others that take time to read my thread and find it interesting.
Are them ones poisonous ?
Very nice. I would like to keep some to, but my girlfriend is against it. ;)
LOL Jimmyve, yes you would love them, and most poeple are like your girlfriend, though it's very unjustified, until you feed them, they hardly ever move, so not so scarey, its the movemant that scares most, there actually quite beautyfull and gracefull, and above all safely behind glass,! theres no way they can "GET" you.
@Kiam by poisonus i assume you mean venomous, which is yes, but not so very dangerous to us as human beings, it would be treated like a very very bad bee sting, their venom would be enough to kill maybe my cat, given the chance, or at least coause some very seriouse harm, as i said before, these speciese are not for beginners, the more docile types have less venom, you can get a speciese called "goliath bird eating" though these are capable of killing birds they rarely do.
