hello
I was wondering do'se anyone know where i could buy a termite king and queen?
only found this site about 6 months ago. been keeping ants for years now really enjoy it.
was just thinking of starting something different. :|
Cant buy them online, i guess its better this way. ;)
I know some guys who are keeping termites (Reticulitermes sp.) , or friends who tried it. It similar as to keep ants in tube or so, but it need huge temperature , easy to dying all colony for keeper´s small mistakes etc.
ok was just wondering, wanted to try it out and see what there like. I've read how hard they are to keep.
In the summer i was going to try set up a large basin and put some plants in to it to rase aphids to feed my ants.
I'm hoping to create a small eco system and was just thinking of gettin termites aswell. :lol:
If anyone dose know where i could get a colony and the price please say thanks. :D :D
i had termites for a while i forgot to water them for a few days and they all died. one small mistake and the entire colony will die. the only way i know of to get them is to find them out side and just get a few dozen workers and or nymphs. just folo the guid i wrote here that should help you with there encloser. o and dont for get to water them every day OR ELSE!!!!! lol
I´ve keeped termites for 4 weeks. First week was on my holiday- I´ve found them underground in old wood of palm and I got about 200 termites of all castes from this wood.... But in Slovakia I´ve made a mistake about humidity in their ,,special test- tube" set up and for high humidity they died.... But it was nice keeping, their majors was warbling like cricets do, if they was very angry...
These termites was some Reticulitermes or other mediterraneal species, I know that there is Kalotermes, but Kalotermes are bit bigger.. My termites had also a caste of new males and females, which was able to be breed to new queen and king(in my colony wasn´t king and queen :( ).. but than I´ve made mistake, their foood was too wet and they died....
it's strange...i have a reticulitermes small colony, with king, queen and three nynph, but i don't put fresh water all days...i keep them into a norml test-tube for ants, and i sometimes bathe the cotton-cork. I've also some kalotermes couples of sexual, and they don't need a lot of humidity like reticulitermes.
any idea if i could buy some?
I think, the head think of termites and also of ant keeping is to get enough informations and knownledge abou the insect, which are you going to keep. For keeping of a termites it is necessarily......... When I wanted to keep termites, I searched for many many informations... And when I´ve found and caught them, I detected that you really must know more than just abou their food in nature and in formicarium... I know one guy from Israel- he have some pairs, but this termites are extreme hard for temperature(oved 36C!) and humidity and so on...
