Calco: Water (22. Aug 2008 23:33)

Do you guys treat ALL the water the comes into contact with your ants?

i don't but i do leave it for a day though in a jug

I don't. I can drink water from a tap, my cat can, so why not the ants. It depends of quality of water you have. Test it on yourself - if you can't drink it without side effects, don't give it to animals untreated.

I have never treated the tap water of ours before giving to ants, It is drinkable, but it tastes somewhat bad and has lot of (humus?) in it and sometimes i see inside test tube (in water) there is some kind of weed growing :/ I think the collapse of my 2 big herculeanus colonies was because of this (something in the water). Now i use bottled water for ants.

You do realise that in most cases bottled water is not as good as tap water? Try useing Evian in your kettle for a month or two.....

@ Kale: the 'humus' (algae) could be from direct sunlight on the water.

I never treat my water before i give it to my ants, never had a problem with that.
