Alot has been written aobut this species on this forum already. Try to use the search function.
Anyway, being south European specie it does need a bit higher temperatures and less moist. Also the hybernating period can be shorter and at higher temperatures (about 15°C).
Good luck, this are nice ants.
i dont keep mine heated at all and they are doing fantastic, i guess it depends on ur room temp.. mine never really drops below 24.. and they seem to thrive. Good luck with them and Welcome to the forum :D :drink06:
cool thanks for the info thanks for the welcome
Hello vaccine and welcome to the forum.
It is best to keep them at +-25°c. If your room temp. is that high you don't need extra heating but if it is lower the brood will develop much slower.
Make sure you have a good way to prevent them from escaping, they are really good at this. ;) If you thread them wright they will grow very fast.
I have a diary about these ants and a few pictures of them in the dutch section of the forum.
higher temperatures and less moist
mpir, this in not true for this species. They like it moist. When the nest is to dry it could kill the hole colony in one day.
