Today i found a very large myrmica nest under a massive log and inside the log i was looking for a queen but couldnt find any im going back there today some time any tips on how to find a queen i know they are like the same as the workers but little bit bigger :roll: but it was really hard to tell any other tips?

When you see one you can tell its a queen :P atleast I can lol the queen usually has bigger thorax i think if thats the right word :P

Queens are slightly larger than the largest workers, and as Kiam said, their Thorax is significantly larger (thats the large section that the Head and legs join to)

i dont think i found any queens on my treck then i found found them before but its hard to measure them up on durt and bark

If you don't know for sure it is a queen, just leaf them. When you find a big nest and they have more than 1 queen you can always take a queen and a few workers to start up a colony of your own. But if you are not sure or if the colony only has 1 queen you better leave it there.

yea the colonies were massive but we couldnt find a queen so i left them but we found a baby toad ^_^
