Andrew: What am I doing wrong? (2. Aug 2008 01:03)

I had a Lasius neoniger queen that i had in a tube with water, and she died a few days ago. For over two weeks she had eggs that didn't not hatched. I am wondering what I am doing wrong?

miszt: (2. Aug 2008 01:23)

Culd be any number of reasons, impossible to say really without knowing more

I had her in my cabinet, covered in towels and a heating blanket underneath. I viewed her very little as possible, but im sorry to say that sometimes my curiosity gets the best of me. I sometimes viewed her every two days. Is there some secret of keeping them alive that I don't know of?

I suspect it was the heating blanket, neoniger dont need any extra heat, and its very important that you give a colony the oppertunity to move if it gets to hot, even a low power heat source can generate allot of heat in an enclosed space like a test tube

Yes probably they heat, like Miszt said, they don't need extra heating. But it could be 100 of other reasons to. Don't keep on trying, i'm sure next time it will go much better.
