burchiebaby: How to start (9. Jul 2008 21:02)

im bout to get my first colony of L asius niger with queen and around 25 workers.. do i place the test tub in the farm and just leave it.. will the workers venture out followed by the queen and make home somewhere...
and if they end up stayin in the tube how long to they move out.....
is a bad idea to simply pour them out into the farm and therefore they will have 2 make nest outside of tube?

Check out the care sheet for Lasius niger, theres no diffrence in the care for both species :) it answers all your question, and probly most of the others you'll have over the next few weeks, anything you cant find, feel free to ask n we'll do our best to help :D

It is reccomended that you never pour the new ants out as it will cause them stress which can kill the queen. It is much better to leave it on top and uncovered with the new nest covered and they will eventually move out themselves. This can take days or weeks.
