Uncletommy: twitching (29. Jun 2008 13:12)

I tried putting a worker from my colony whos queen dies into my other one with queen and 1 worker and the foreign worker was accepted. I have tried to put in another worker a week later and they're showing strange behaviour. Runnningabout and twitching a lot by the queen then running about and then twitching again. is this aggressive or is this some kind of acceptance thing. dunno. please explain

thanks

and what do you mean by twitching does it looks like there trying to head but the queen?

Uncletommy: (29. Jun 2008 13:25)

they are running to the queen and moving forward and back very fast like they're vibrating but they're not biting her. just looks like they're harrasing her. should i remove them or see what happens?

gabranth: (29. Jun 2008 13:29)

no they should be ok ive never mixed lasius niger together but if there no biting each other then they should be fine but keep an eye on them if they do start biting each other remove the 2 foreign workers asap

same happened when i added 5 workers one after each other to my 1 queen (the 5 workers queen died) and they did exactly wat ur lasius did uncletommy. strange

They recognize a queen but the smell is different, that is probably why they are doing like this. As long as they don't attack the queen there is no problem. Good job at adding only 1 worker at the time. Hope it works out.
