I have finally found out what my Camponotus ligniperda will eat. Grains of sugar and I put a spider in my ant farm and they killed it, then ate it. The spider was light grey in colour with a small thin body with very thin long legs. Can anyone tell me what other insects Camponotus ligniperda like to eat please? Thank you.
My colony size is about 6.
PS I tried goldfish flakes but it didn't work.
I highly recomend that you dont feed live spiders to your ants, regardless of the size, remeber they are venomous, and can quickly over power an Ant with Silk, and loosing 2 out of 6 workers from an early colony would be a major blow
there is also the possibility of mites or other parasites, better to freeze or boil the insects you feed to your ants, unless you know they came from a sterile enviroment
Miszt is wright about that.
You can give all kind of insects to your ants. Cockroaches, grass hopers, crickets, meal worms, spiders, flys ....
Honey for ligniperda they like it so much and peas!
lol yeah peas is a secret weapon
mine love the pea!
spiders and small crickets are the only 'meat' ive given them and they take well to both
suger water and sainsburies lux honey go down well
the snobs dont seem as keen on the tescos value stuff though lol
fishflakes were crap with mine too
although my rubra lapped it up
My Ligs like very small chunks of lamb, honey, LOTS of insects, but not so much sugar water..
Mine like small spiders and other small garden insects, Organic Honey (from tesco lol), sometimes peas, definently plum or apricote and no idea with fish flakes (havnt tried it out yet)
and as for mine since they have been in there leg they dont seem to eat at all.. hope they are still alive :s
