Hello People :)

My Lasius Niger Queen and workers arrived yesterday with 10 workers and a 20x30 glassfarm basin purchased on antstore.net i was just wondering how deep the soil within the basin should be? i have soil which come with the basin but it only raises about 3-5 inches off the bottom anyone got the answer lol I've attached a picture of my farm...

the soil only goes into the farm section, the basin shuld have only a very light covering, otherwise the ants will nest in it, 2-3mm is enough on the floor of the basin, and the farm section should be filled to the top

did u put clay balls/gravel in the farm section first?

Ahhhh i see i've made a noobie mistake then lol ive put about 2-5 inches of soil on the basin floor and about 4-6 inches in that little farm section.

And yes the bottom layer is a sorta gravel/sand mixture

that should be fin my farm is about 4 inches and they happily live in that :D
