Alby: Lasius niger sand nest umidity (22. Mai 2008 14:39)

I have the starter set with sand and loam for mixture, the colony is untill in the test tube...so I can modify the nest.
Am I obliged to keep moist the sand??if it is, what kind of techniques you suggest to me??
thank you very much!!!

PS:today is born my first worker! :D

It would be easy if you have some kind of granulate underneath your sand/loam mix and a tube that reaches to the granulate. Than you can put water in the tube and the sand/loam will suck up the water from underneath. Try it out a few times before you put your ants in it so you can see how many times a week you need to put water in it.
