Alby: Messor Barbarus queen (28. Apr 2008 14:35)

Now I'm keeping the messor queen in a dark place, close in her test tube until will born the first workers, do you think that is good or I have to put the test tube open in the arena?

Hi Alby!

I also have a messor queen since 2 weeks. It is my first Messor barbarus queen. It only has eggs and no workers and i´m also keeping it only in the test tube until there are the first workers.

Don´t worry, it´s good to keep the queen only in the test tube because so it won´t be disturbed and feels save. And there is also a good micro climate in the test tube. Good luck with your qeen! :D

In deed, they feel save in the tube. Don't disturb her to much. Maybe you can give her a little bit of food once a week. (small insects)
Good luck.

I read in the care sheet when I give some insects to my ant put them in the boiling water, now after boiling I have to put them in the test tube or I have to dry??...and I let the food for a week untill I look another time?

It is not necessary to boil them but it is better, that way you are sure there are no bacteria left in the insect. As long as the insect don't mold you can leave it in. Check on it every 2 days (or so).
