I have just purchased Antstore Starter Set 2. Previously I have tried to introduce ants into the Antworks system and they have never been happy. However the queen and her ants seem to be very happy in the new setup - lots of eggs/lava and pupa. However they won't use the laberynth and I cannot understand the instructions - do you have advice/translations?
Antworks are no good for colonies.
Checkout the caresheet for Lasius niger, you might find it useful :) (it applies to most european species)
no problems with the queen - she seems very happy -I just don't know how to make the best of the habitat
you cant force them to do anything, if they need it, they'll use it, will be a while before your colony is big enough to fully use the whole setup
I presume that the two cotton balls need to be kept wet - but how will they get the water if they don't go there?
They probabably do go there if its the only water supply there is is your colony young ? As they usually go out and night time if there a young colony so there is not many dangers for them.
I have found that if I keep the cotton balls wet then the water actually travels down between the walls of the labyrinth and collects in the angle so I think they get the water even without travelling up the labyrinth. The colony is only 3 weeks old (since it arrived here) and seems to be doing well, they eat flies and the nectar are very active. The queen has built a nest which I have a picture of. :D

I have read the care sheet. It is the instructions for the labyrinth (starter set 2) which are in german that I cannot understand.
