ford-ute: how much food (9. Mär 2008 06:30)

i fed my queen about 4 mills of orange juice last night and when i woke up this morning it was all gone the bowl was dry it was not tipped over

surely one and can not drink that much in 10 hours

shes the only and in the farm i dont understand where it has all gone may be evaporation but surely not that quick and over night when it is not hot or any sun light to help

where do you think it has gone?

Small quantities of water can evaporate really quickly, 10 hours is more than enough :) Anyway, queens don't need any sweets, they have energetic resources for many months, sometimes even years. If you want to feed her, give her some protein food (small dead bugs)

Agreed, evaporation would be very quick.

I agree that evaporation did have a part to play in it. I fed her the same thing last night and when i woke up tthis morning there was about half of it left so i guess that she did drink some of it but clearly not all

i have captured some Hemipteras today and an going to give them to her tonight i suspect the she is a camponotus sp. and i have read that they eat the honeydew from these insects or she might just eat them either way she will be fed so who cares

Workers milk them, that is true, the queen is probably just going to eat it.
New queens don not really need food, but it wouldn't harm them if you give a bit. ;)
