Myrmecology: Insect Vitamin and Protein Jelly (8. Feb 2008 17:41)

Hi all, i was wondering how to prevent mould growing on the Insect vitimen and protein jelly after opening them.

Thanks.

That is difficult, you could keep it in the fridge and it will go on for a few days. I always try to use the full pack. ;) (but i have enough ants to give it to so that is not a problem)

Thanks Jim, i will have to ride through the days of having not a numerous amount of ants to consume the food. I will put it in the fridge like you suggested. :musik04:

Just had the same question on the german board.

Once opend it will be ok for about 5 to 7 days in the fridge.
Outside the fridge it should be removed after 2 days.

A closed pot is ok for up to one year in the fridge.

Not sure about "deep freezing" it...

Greetings
Simon

well thats what i do with my mealworms - they are all frozen and I just snap one off and defrost it for a while

egoody : we can all do this bet they are not so fresh as new killed ones.

JimmyVe: (16. Feb 2008 16:59)

That is true, new killed ones are always better (fresh) but i do it to, it is just easier if you frees them (the insects i mean ;) )

You can take a bit of the jelly and put the rest back into the fridge, so you can save it for a few days and give a bit more.
