.:ANGUS:.: Myrmica rubra: To late in the year to start a colony? (2. Okt 2007 23:42)

Hi

Im just about to order a colony, I have everything setup but is it to late to get a colony and let it get established since they will want to hibernate so shortly. What is the life span of a queen of this variety and how much will it affect this........ NEWBIE ALERT!!!

Every european ant should have hibernation. Its not depending WHERE you keep it, its from where the ants ARE.....

Hi angus and welcome.

You can buy the ants now but think about it, they will go in hibernation soon so they do not move (ore do) much the next few months. But like most people when they start keeping ants they want to see action ;) So if you like that to, just wait until the hibernation is over and than buy them. But it is up to you.

Good luck
