guerreira: WOOD - mold treatment (4. Sep 2007 19:22)

Hi to all!

How can I protect the wood branches from rotten, in my "future" Polyrhachis terrarium?

I want to mantain the original look (not painting or sanding).

I heard epoxy could do the trick... but how?

Welcome :)
Could you insert the picture again?(if it is important)
Use "add an attachment" if the picture is on your disc.

the mold... :(

Good(or just any  ) ventilation should solve your problem.

Epoxy is not good idea.

Why? Does it hurt the ants?

epoxy - It's used in paludariums and doesn't contaminates the water.

my terrarium - Now it doesn't have any ventilation. but it will have 4 holes in the cover (1,8cm or 3/4" diameter each). It's not much (I guess) because I don't want the humidity to go to the room. Will it be enough?

Hi guerreira and welcome,

I have no experience with epoxy so i can not say it would to the trick, but most of the time wood will rotten if it can not dry, so like Flan is saying a good ventilation would do the trick.

Epoxy is safe until scratched (unnecessary risk).
4 holes can be enough. It all depends of the size of terrarium. You will have to try it yourself.

ok thank's
By the way... the tank is 30x100x40cm

One more :) ... does the wood mold hurt the ants?

Flan: (5. Sep 2007 14:07)

I heard that mould is very dangerous only if it is on dead insects.

But in my opinion, spores of any mould can be dangerous when they enters tracheal breathing system.

Polyrhachis ants are beautiful, which exactly will you keep?

I hope my poor English is understandable.
