I am going to order some Myrmica rubra from antstore but was just wondering, is it "safe" to transfer the ants to an ant farm by cooling them so they "sleep" then gently tipping them into the farm?
I don't want to cause too much stress for the queen and the workers.
I was planning on using the Glass ant display 25x15x2cm with a tube connecting down to a basin for food water etc.
Regards.
Well I think if you put them to sleep they will not be stressed unless your putting them in when there awake...
it shuldnt cause them to much problem, but tbh, as u are ordering the 2cm wide tank, you should b able to just put the test tube into the farm and let them make there own way out when they are ready, make a small starter tunnel for them with a pen :)
ok miszt, kiam thanks for the advice :)
I changed my mind and will probably go with a glass farm basin instead so that I don't need a separate ares for foraging (for now).
Regards
Get the panoramic display one. It's basically 4 any displays forming a rectangle with a farm area in the middle. That's what I am using. I am too lazy to post the link in ant store but just look panoramic and you will find it :)
the panarmic one looks very nice, am still waitin for myne to come thru, 10 days apperntly :(
Looks very nice tbh.
They seriously need to get some more lids in stock.
Do you think you could also have enough room for foraging in the "glass XL - ant display 30x20x6cm" as well as a nest. I'm talking about Myrmica rubra here.
If it is possible its always better to just place the tube in the farm and let them move them selves.
off topic: i now 'tbh' is short for something, but what ? (i only now BTW ;))
to be honest :)
off topic: okay thanks miszt. ;)
