mastersrgt: Like your store, wish it was in USA (4. Aug 2007 04:11)

I have been studying ants and keeping them from the age of five. I have Polyergus ant colony in a 29 gallon fish tank. They have three queens and they have been in the tank for over a year. they have males and females this year. I would love to get some leaf cutter ants, do you think you will ever open a store in the USA, at some time. I like the way you made your ant farms the ones in the state are lame. Great store :D

This question is asked a lot. I highly doubt ant store plans to go international :) I am afraid someone in the us will have to enter the business and open an ant store for the us market.

Also I dont agree the types of ants on the US are "lame" get your self a nice colony of Pogonomyrmex harvester ants and let the fun begin. Just don't annoy them as their poison stings :). They also seem easy to keep, surviving on seeds as a source of food and don't require many special conditions.

Hi mastersrgt and welcome,

Maybe you could make a farm yourself. ;) (like this one http://www.antstore.net/viewtopic.php?t=5737)

@mastersrgt talk to sithmeister he opened a store in the UK. Maybe he could help you on how to source the materials and open your very own store to supply the US market.

I wish I had the time to start a shop in the US but with work and school. There are alot of Ants In the US that I like, The Polyergus Ant and the Wood Ant. Are two that are in my area. Had a wood ant Queen last year but only lived eight months, had two group of brood then dead on me. My Polyergus or a slave maker ants, are doing great. just give they some new formica brood and they take it form there. I would love to get some Harvester Ants, or leaf cuter but they are not in my area. They Will send afew works of the Harvester ants but no queen so what good is it. Would be nice to have because I work for a nature center and have a ant program next week. sorry about the long letter. never meet anyone else that likes ants, vary happy to find this site :D

;) here are a lot of people that like ants.

These are in deed nice species, but leaf cutters are a difficult species to keep. Where do you keep your ants in now ?

mastersrgt: (5. Aug 2007 14:31)

I am in Illinois USA, and I have them in fish tanks one in a 29 gallon and one in a ten gallon. both doing great one alittle over a year and the other around two years. I need to find a place to get test tubes may help with starting colonies. Going to try to make different kinds of antfarms see what works.

Do any of the people from the US on here have a extra Harvister ant Queen and Workers they would part with for some $$?

Mkes me want to come over just to come to the shop and get some cool antfarms. If I did not hate to fly.

Can we buy the antfarms and have them shipped to the US? Would be so much easier then killing Queens trying to get things to work.

Varban: (5. Aug 2007 19:17)

You do know that you can order all the ant store products and get them shipped to the US right? With the exception of ants of course, but the farms and everything else can be shipped to the US no problem as far as I know. It's only queens that can't be shipped.

http://antstore.net/viewtopic.php?t=1109 <- it clearly says they will ship ant farms to the us, albeit the thread is a bit old. Just ask them if they will ship an ant farm to the us. Although given the excessive shipping charges you are better off making one yourself :(
