Pugberto: Is this appropriate for a Queen Ant? (1. Aug 2007 23:27)

1) I recently found a Lasuis n iger queen which I had spent ages to find. I don't have a test tube of any sort but I do have an insect container which I put water soaked cotton at the bottom with some sugar sprinkled on it which has now dissolved into it. (Image below)

2) Also seeing I know it breed today so how long would it be before it had eggs and for those eggs to hatch?

If you don't have test tubes try using a straw or half inch wide tubing.

I agree with mrIlovetheAnts. Your container will dry up and not be able to hold the humidity the way a test tube can. If you're in britain you should have no trouble obtaining a test tube from a school stationary store. Furthermore unlike a cup which will dry with a test tube you will be able to SEE the water levels so that you will always KNOW just how much water you have left in the tube before you need to start getting worried about moisture levels and humidity. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. Any ideas on my second question?

In deed ;) lot of information here, easy to find with the search engine.

It is better to keep her in a tube (ore some kind).

Happy ant keeping. ;)

I have used some what of a test tube now and she has now laid her legs. All I need is my pay cheque for a formicarium.

you wont need a farm for a few months yet, so no need to rush :) Skippy posted an excellent idea for feeding ants in a test tube, here...

I recently moved her into a new tube for her and she has now had about 10 to 12 eggs.
