Arcais: Please tell me this is a queen (31. Jul 2007 00:48)

I went for a 4 hour hike on the coast today and right before I turned around to head back, this little lady crossed my path.

Is she a queen? Should I start kneeling? :D

Finally!!!!
WOO HOO!!!!! :D

Now I just have to figure out what kind:)

Krümel: (31. Jul 2007 10:10)

Looks like am Servifomica sp. queen. But as ya have much other species in the States as we do in europe, one can't figure the species just from these pictures out.

But have fun with her ;)

Theres a nest of Lasuis Niger in my garden which have queens which are about to take flight in the next 2 days, so I'm on top guard for them once they've shredded there wings.

Very nice queen Arcais ,like Krümel wrote, I also think it is some Formica (Serviformica) specie ;) :)

Good job Arcais and good luck with here. I'm glad for you. ;)
I stick with my friends over here, thinking it is a Formica sp. ;)

I went to a new place yesterday. Found dozens of nests and saw hundreds of ants. At least 5 - 7 different species just by looking at them. Could have been more if you looked under a microscope.

This little lady was scurrying across the trail I was on. I couldn't believe it.

Thanks for the help on the identification.

Ok, so she left the test tube and is hiding under a leaf. Is this bad? Should I lock her away in the tube?

I'm sure this question is answer somewhere already
