miszt: PFTE Tape? (28. Jul 2007 14:47)

Is it as good as the liquid? I was planning on using a 5cm thick line of pfte tape in my c.herc tank, and then a 2.5cm line of vasaline above it...but i dont know if the tape is as good? anyone tried it?

Heya,
tried the tape with Pheidologeton diversus, and it didnt make any impression on them.
Vaseline will smear, how about talkum powder? if you tape of the upper part, itll look nice, plus ants can't stick sand or the like into it to create a barrier.

In the german Forum someone used it and it didn't help.

Some use salade oil instead, because some species don't like the smell ... and you might also, especially after some months :D So you have to renew it. Same with talkum, every time ants try to escape, they destroy little of the talkum layer and without regular controlling they will escape.
PTFE is the 2nd and a coverage the best.

how on earth do u get talcum poweder on the sides of a tank? lol its a big tank aswel, n to be honest i cant see how i can do it...

Mix it with water until you have a thick paste. Then you can apply it on the side.

wikid! does it crumble into big chunks and fall off tho?

I used vegetable oil on the inch or so(~2.5 cm) and the ants don't go near it. I figure it was safer than vasoline as it's more "natural".

how do you stop the vegtable oil dripping n ending up at the bottom of the basin?

how do you stop the vegtable oil dripping n ending up at the bottom of the basin? Put less oil.. It might help..

I brushed a little on. A few drops started to roll down, but I wiped those up. It later beaded up, but the ants still won't cross it.

I also have a screen sitting on top just in case. Before the oil, they use to hang out upside down on the screen.
