Marcawat: Lasius niger (17. Jun 2007 23:26)

I got my Lasius niger ants last year, they are still in the test tube but i am noticing that when i feed them with honey and ham that they get sand and put it into the honey to soak it up and also put sand around the ham too. is this normal or do you know why they do it? i cant take picture if you want too see it?

Hi Marc!
Thats quite normal! They put sand into the honey to be sure, not to fall in there. They act the same way with water.
Little safety girls :D

Don´t know why they do this with ham, too...

May i say, ham is not the best food for you ants, try some insects.
