hi all, just wanted to find out what the best soil/sand is for ants. If it depends on certan spicies, then maby some infomation on the soil conditions for Lasius Niger.

hello there, generally the best ground substance to use is a sand and loam mix. people have different opinions to the ratio of sand to loam. but most seem to say about 60% loam, and 40% sand. this will give the ground a good holding ablity, so the ants tunnels dont colapse.

It is not only for the tunnels, it is also to keep the ground hold on to the water. If you only use sand the water will go right throe it. ;)
