Hello, im thinking of getting Myrmica rubra as my first colony. Is it possible to add another queen or more in the future and at any time?
Also if the only queen dies can another queen be introduced to save the colony, and would it be the same for monogyn species?
cheers

Other queens can be added, when they did NOT have founded an other colony, or rather did not have any workers yet. It is not save, if it will work, but it's still possible that the new queen will be accepted.
PS: I've got one myrmica rubra colony on my own and just added one queen to the main colony last week. ;)
thanks for you quick reply, i might order them this week with a starter set.
can ant store supply them with more than one queen?
Send an email ;) The easyiest alternative is that the queens are fro the same colony. Then it will work definitly.
It is possible with Myrmica rubra but it is not a 100% sure. I added two small queens to my colony last winter (they have more change to be accepted when the colony is in hibernation, i read somewhere) and it work. ;)
Yes ,If is Myrmica in hibernation ,you can changing queens ... I don´t know why ,but is more possible like when you do it now ,in summer - workers cannot accept her like queen ,but like food and this is not good for you ;)

Can u do the same with Lasius Niger?
NO. Lasius niger are monogyn.
But, what if u give them some week with new queen, so she are in tube were the other ants can't come in, but still smell, and see her?(:
strictly 1 queen for nigers im afraid
