deadmeat30: Temnothorax nylanderi (10. Apr 2007 23:50)

hey all, with my lasius niger doing so well, im going to start to research my next colony. ive been looking at Temnothorax nylanderi, they sound so interesting. trying to find some more infomation on the internet but not much luck, if anyone has a colony ill be very interested to hearing from them.

as it reads in antstore, they generally have a colony of around 200 worker, and live on the ground, would this mean they could live on an island formicarium?

thanks, Alan

Hi Alan, i myself don't keep them but i know someone who does.
They are very small and, like you sad, the colony only grows up to 200 workers. In the wild they live sometimes in a fruit of an oak (don't know the English word for it. ;))

I guess you can keep them in an Island farm.

@JimmyVe: would you be able to get some pictures of the person you know set up of the colony?

thanks Alan

@ Alan: i shall ask him, but I'm not sure he has pictures from it. I know he has them but not for long i think from last year.

I've seen pictures of them living in a y-tong nest, so If you wanna see there nest activity I'd put them in one.

a y-tong nest could be intereting

Yeah, I found out it wasnt y-tong but some sort of plaster? Im not too sure, try and decide for yourself.

yeah looks like plaster that does. does look cool seeing inside the nest. ill figure something out anyway, might make a mini cork nest! could work quite well.

By the looks of it this display would be perfect for your T.N

Saw it in the store on here. So you could proberly make one for cheaper, but at least gives you a good design idea?
