pylofm: Lasius niger (5. Nov 2006 17:07)

Hi, I am due to recieve a colony of L asius niger from yourselves and I have a question, due to the fact that they should now be in Hibernation...

What is it best for me to do when they arrive...do they need feeding?, watering?

Please could you advise of what is best to do?

Many thanks

My first advice is try to look some old topic about this subject. It has been all answerd before.

Nevertheless, you don't need to worry about feeding them. They won't eat. They are hibernating. If you will get them in a glass test tube, then just make sure there is enough water behind the cotton (most likely is) and put them in the fridge till late March. That is all. They will like it there as there is constant tempereature about 5 oC.

And make sure they have always water. Number 1 case of dead during hibernation is drying out. Take a look at them once in a wile.
