Im going to keep my L.formica queen in the tube for a while how much air will she need??

Will she need food or is she like the L.niger type ants?

she wont need food till the first workers arrive just bung the end of the test tube with cotton wall she will get enough air that way. Yes lasius flavus are small yellow to orange colour ants that are simar in shape to Lasius niger A pic would help confim the species. Dont feed until the first workers arrive. If they are L flavus you do know that they a subteranian species spending most of the time beneath ground un like there darker large cousins L niger.

Great thank you. They are Flavus. Im trying to get some red film so that when I build them a Nest they will dig near the glass :)
Will they be happy to come above ground to feed?

Yes they will come above ground to feed (the workers) but only if the colonie is a little bigger. (I have them myself) The biggest part of the colonie stays underground. Normally the queen doesn't need found but you can give here a little bit of honey-water.
