Charlotte: formica fusca (12. Jul 2005 11:26)

I wanted to buy lasius niger from a uk website for a beginner but have not been able to.

Is Formica Fusca okay for a beginner?

Hi Charlotte

Most of the people says, the best is to start with Lasius niger, i think its always importend to get all the information you need, any kind of ants you wanna buy.
Formica fusca isnt that really hard. I keep them togther with a colonie Raptiformica s. :)

Good Luck

Formica fusca arent to bad, they use formic acid as a defence in case you didnt know so they can sting you if you upset them,

I dont where you are based but in london today you could have caught your own Lasius niger queens as the nupital flights took place here today.

Im sure that more nupital flights will take place in the next couple of days if the weather holds out so keep your eye open for the big ants which are the young queens.
