HeatherLitke: Can anyone help with info on a total setup for a beginner? (27. Jun 2005 19:18)

I was hoping someone could help me. I am looking to start a colony ant farm that my whole family can enjoy. basically I need to know everything I need and how to build a large but reliable farm and what ants to start with that are large enough fo r my children to see and learn from. I am worried about small ants as i do not want them to escape. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Heather

Sorry for my bad English.
I don't know whats the normal ant in the US is. But I think you can take a Camponotus species to hold in a farm.
It's easier to buy a farm than build one.
But its very important to put the farm into a formicarium (i dont know whether is is the right word) or you should transfer the farm and the formicarium by a (Schlauch????).

Camponotus is a very big specie. Its worker are 5.5118112 inches tall.

Well, sorry for my bad english but I hope I'm comprehensable.

Schlauch = rubber hose

Camponotus is a very big specie. Its worker are 5.5118112 inches tall.
That would be 0.5 Inch (1 inch is about 2,5Cm)
