Adamandtheants: Any store combi best/basin (8. Dez 2015 18:44)

I recently bought this product it is lovely and exactly what I needed for my first set up. I just have one small problem I'm not sure if it is a problem or just me being fussy.

I set it all up and put water in both the nest and basin to dampen the sand. All of the sand in the basin has dried and hardened as expected apart from the back left corner next to the nest glass devideing piece. I'm a bit worried that the silicon isn't completely sealing the nest from the basin has anyone else had this problem or is it part of the design ?

My Brother has this combi nest/basin and it is completly sealed with silicon.

My problem is I cannot see the silicon as there is 2mm of sand covering it all I can see is the corner of the basin is still wet when the rest of the area is completely dry and it makes me think there is a gap between the layers of glass donyounthinkntjis will be a problem if there is a small gap and the corner stayed wet possibly the ants will try to dig there not that they will get far

My ants uses evers wet place to dig.
If I make a little place wet, it only needs 5min and my Lasius niger or Myrmica rubra have 20 worker at it and they are digging :D

Ohh then this is a problem they might try to live in the basin if it doesn't dry and gets more wet every time I add water to the nest :(

HookNick: Re: Any store combi best/basin (9. Dez 2015 14:18)

I think they will not try to live in the basin, because the sand is not deep enough.
They will live in the nest, but dig in the basin 'for fun'.
