I’ve spent a lot of time creating a plaster nest for my ants. Today, as I where to finish the last parts, I noticed that it already has a bad case of mould! I’m aware that these nests mould easily but I’ve not even gotten to use this one.
I’m trying to dehydrate the thing at the moment to milder the effects, but my question is if I can use this nest at all now?
I've had the same problem with one of my plaster nests and brushed it using a dremel followed by a good rinse off. If I recall correctly the mould returned, even worse that time.
As a result I had to get my ants to move out of the tank once more to change the nest. Hence, I'd recommend you build a new nest now rather than having to go through the trouble of moving your colony in a couple of weeks to provide a new nest - which then you'd have to build anyway.
Best of luck and enjoyment with your colony!
