SlyKoala: Live vs. dried meal worms? (12. Jan 2013 19:24)

If i get live meal worms how will I kill them? could I freeze them? And would my ant's ( L asius niger) accept dried meal worms?

Most ants are not able to eat dry food,
so your meal worms should be fresh!
I for myself hold the meal worms in small bottles with different sorts meal,
if I need new, I pick some up, kill them with boiling water and feed to my ants,
the rest of the killed worms gets frozen ( by the way frozen meal worms are much easier to cut)...

Well like Markus said you can keep mealworms fresh for a long time or even breed them in a scale large enough for a Lasius niger colony with just very little effort.
They can survive with very low humidity and just some meal, some old bread and some potatoes (they need moisture to lay their eggs once they are beetles).
It is the cheapest way to feed your ants.

I personally just cut them with a razorblade and then crush the head so it doesn´t move.
