SlyKoala: Lasius niger queen + workers have arrived, what now? (8. Jan 2013 11:20)

The queen arrived very healthy with 15+ workers and a small brood. Unfortunately they have arrived before their enclosure i ordered from Antstore. Will they be ok in the test tube for now? do i feed them in the test tube? if so how and what, any advise would be great :)

Hello,
now is the hibernation time for this species.
We keep this species from end of october to the end of march by 5-8 °C
So it is normal that they are inactiv.
Some ant keepers keep this species in the winter time by room themperature.
We think it is possible, but it is not the normal bio rhythm.

I have my colony in a test tube, just keep them somewhere cold(I leave mine by my window) or out in a shed if you have one! they wil be fine!
