chapmsam: Colony Growth (26. Feb 2012 16:49)

Hi im new on here and ive had my first ant colony for about a month now (Lasius niger). I was just wondering by how much an average ant colony will grow by, yearly. Thanks

The growth rate depends on a few factors, like the amount of ants, food supply, temperature and the fertile queen, so there is no easy answer!
An easy rule is, that especially small, joung colonys grow slowly.

Ok thank you, :) so far i have a queen, 16 workers and a number of brood.

If i remember rightly, my first colony of Lasius niger seemed to get to about 100 individuals by late summer, they boomed much more in numbers the next year though!

By the way did u start with just a queen or with some workers?
