leo94: Hello! I'm new round here. (16. Jan 2012 02:02)

Hi I've been doing a lot of research into getting a ant colony and I've done lots of research into nests, types, food, hibernation, the works however the only thing I can't decide on is what type of ant I want to get as this is very difficult to choose without actually seeing the ants first hand so I thought I'd ask some people who had! :)

At the moment the type of ant that I'm going more towards is the Myrmica rubra. What I am ideally looking for is a relatively large ant that I can see working easily, will grow into large colonies quickly, is very active, relatively easy to keep however I don't mind putting in the extra work for a more interesting ant.

Any help and suggestions would be great! Thanks

maybe Messor example Messor barbarus for a working species that has large individuals and works allot or Camponotus i suggest Camponotus cruentatus or Camponotus vagus or Camponotus ligniperda :) thats what i would pick if i could order them to serbia ;D

Yeah..I´ll go for Camponotus too. Big, easy and just a cool ant to watch.
