trevstonbury: Feeding during hibernation... (18. Okt 2011 13:12)

Good afternoon peeps

I have two colonies I was thinking about hibernating this week a Lasius n iger and Myrmica rubra.
I currently have them sealed in some small nursery style extended test tube (see pic below). I have a couple of questions regarding their care over the winter.

*Do I need to feed them, if so how often and is there any change in diet over this period?

*I have wrapped the test tube sections in tinfoil and bubble wrap, will these be good enough insulation if I place them in the attic?

P.S. if you have any other recommendations please let me know, this is their first winter. I didn't place them into their tank this year as I only received them at the end of the summer.
