natureboy44: Camponotus ligniperdus (3. Sep 2011 21:27)

Hi

Just got a queen Camponotus ligniperdus last week, it arrived on it's own no eggs no workers or brood! on the order it said queen with 0-3 workers.
My question is do I just wait or do I need to feed her? is it OK that she has no eggs or workers? any tips would be appreciated.

Also what honey do I need to use or avoid for ants?

Thank you

Hi, you probably bought your queen at the wrong time of the year. She may lay eggs in the next few weeks but she will certainly be going into hibernation soon. Don't expect to see and workers from this colony until march April time. Any honey will do but I doubt she'll accept it anyway. Leave her for the winter period, when she wakes up around Feb time she'll lay eggs.
