mattybadboy44: Can I add a new Queen? (17. Aug 2011 14:52)

I have about 50 workers collected from the wild but no queen, I believe they are formica fusca can I add a queen to them? if so anyone have a queen available?
If not could I add a Formica sanguinea Queen to take over the nest?

F. sanquinea is possible, the other idea not.

How would I need to go about it if I tried to introduce a F. sanquinea queen?

I don't have exp. with it but I think it is good to place the F ormica fusca in a cool area for a few ours and then put the queen in the nest. I think you also need some F ormica fusca brood (pupea and larvea). But experts please help him.

Raptiformica queens more typically kill or drive out all the workers and queens in the nest they usurp, raising the brood left behind as their own. There have been accounts of a queen being adopted by host workers, but this is likely related to the very specific conditions as involved in non-parasitic adoption.
