hello i have had Messor cf. capitatus for 5 weeks now, i havent had alot of activity the only activity i have had is the only 1 ant running around the basin. I cant seem to find the right seeds for them to eat or any think else really any tips?
My Messor barbarus love dandelion seeds and foreign finch mix. The dandelion is really good for young colonies as the seeds are small and easy to handle. Ive been trying all sorts of wild weed seeds but many are just ignored.
Ok ill give them a try but am up in scotland. Most of the wind seeds have gone but ill have a look in some shops, i did not want to spend any money on seeds when i work around them alot but thank you.
Try also crushed walnuts but be carefull buying seeds like grass seeds from local shops as they could be treated with insecticides.
Would a wild bird mix be ok
Yea, anything that has millets in should be fine but i found that with the first workers in the colony couldnt handle the bigger seeds. Perhaps panicum millet which is the sprays you give budgies.
Do you think they will eat springtails?
I havent tried them but its worth trying anything but kill it first.
Ok whats good about them is that they eat mite so any poeple with mites thats your cure.
Thank you i just went in my room to have alook at the nest and about 15 workers were moving seeds into the nest. Thank you
