I just got a queen. To make a long story short i destroyed on old stump that had ants crawling around on it and within the 3rd swing of a sledge hammer a queen popped out. I think that its a Lasius Niger. Not really sure. She has a black head, a red thorax, and a black abdomen. She seems to be fine and so I gathered a few of the worker ants that were also crawling around. For some odd reason one of the worker ants that i gather started to attack the queen.... Like as in a sort of pecking attack and tried to start dragging her. If someone could explain where i should go from here that would be great.
Edit: (Shes a Carpenter Ant Queen)
a read thorax sounds more like Formica sp. or Camponotus sp.
If she just dragged her its normal. Its often that workers look like they would attack a queen but the only drag them into the new/old nest or some other place.
Where do you live?
When USA is right than I can´t really help you with the exactly species but Creature might be right with Camponotus.
Lasius niger as far as i know, don´t live in the USA, anyway they are completley grey/black, how comes that you think it is a Lasius niger?
Also without a photo we can´t tell anything.
The grabbing will prpbably be normal.
