Hi, i bought a queen lasius niger from edu- sci about two weeks ago, she arrived with 6 workers and a brood of small white eggs.
The worker ants have blocked up the entrance of the test tube and everything is going well as the brood is begining to develop ( 5 small pupa, around 20 eggs with black specks in the center :D) I am feeding them on dead insects which they drag back to the nest but i have not yet seen them eating the sugar water i leave out :?.
i went away last weekend and when i returned there was a small amount of mould at the entrance of the nest , i try my best to remove dead insects but small amounts seem to have been used to block up the nest. is there any other way of reducing mould?
also i was wondering how long the ants will take to hatch and when they will leave the test tube and start burrowing ( their nest chamber is only around 2cm in length)
how long did it take for everyone else's lasius niger colony to move out of the test tube?
I am new to this forum and have found it very useful, thankyou =D>
