I am new to keeping ants and have decided that Myrmica r ubra will be my first coleny. I do have a quick question, I am concerned that the coleny will create flying ants at some point? Is the production of flying ants triggered by climate or somthing else that can be controlled or is it just going to happen?

Sorry bud, but eventualy it will happen.. when the colony are big and strong enough they will produce Males and Queens :)

You can get male and female ants in your arena. I got perhaps 50 flying ants in my farm this year. But my colony is perhaps 1000 ants ans 20 or more Gyne strong. It will least a long time, until you´ll get the first flying ants. On the other hand you wont see the ants flying in your arena. I also couldn´t see them leaving from my ants island.
